Community Research Partners

A community research partner is a community organization that is interested in being involved in developing a research project with a small group of student/trainees who are mentored and supported by academics. The research project will be generated from the needs of the community research partner.

The community research partner will join the 1.5 day in-person meeting in Winnipeg Manitoba on September 26 and 27, 2024. They will be partnered with 3 to 4 other students/trainees and an academic mentor. During the workshop, we will learn about the community organization, and the work that they do in the area of child maltreatment and/or child welfare. Together, we will determine what information or evidence that could be generated through research would assist the community organization in their work. The CARe RTP small group will work together to turn the idea generated from the community partner into a research question and then a research project.

Benefits of joining the CARe RTP for Community Research Partners

Joining the CARe RTP as a Community Research Partner will mean that we will work collaboratively to complete a research project that is relevant and important to the community organization. This will be accomplished with attendance to the 1.5 day in-person workshop and then monthly meetings with the small groups to keep the project progressing.

• There will be no financial costs to the community research partners.
• All of the expenses for the research projects will be covered by the CARe RTP resources.
• The projects will be small and manageable so that they can be completed in a reasonable amount of time and may include: scoping reviews, file or chart reviews, program evaluations, small data collections (e.g., surveys, individual and focus group interviews), and secondary data analyses.
• The findings will be presented to the Community Research Partner and also provided in a written report or infographic.

Community Research Partners will also have access to all the resources developed for the CARe RTP. This will include recorded lectures, live webinars, live student-led journal clubs, and recommended academic reading.
