Co-Lead of the CARe RTP
Dr. Ashley Stewart-Tufescu is an Assistant Professor and Registered Social Worker in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. She is also a Scientist with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba and a Research Affiliate with the Centre for Human Rights Research. She co-leads the Childhood Adversity and Resilience Research Training Platform (CARe RTP) at the University of Manitoba funded by Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
Dr. Stewart-Tufescu’s research program is situated around issues of child welfare, global child protection and the prevention of childhood adversity. Her work focuses on contextualizing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-informed interventions designed to promote healthy child development, enhance family relationships, and bolster community well-being. Her research spans 19 different countries throughout Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Southeast Asia including many under resourced regions.
Dr. Stewart-Tufescu has practice experience in child welfare and caregivers supports and continues to provide direct service locally, nationally and internationally to prevent child maltreatment and promote non- violent conflict resolution from a trauma-informed and child rights-based perspective.
