Martine Hébert, PhD

Trained as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Martine Hébert is a full professor in the Department of Sexology at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She holds the Canada Research Chair on Interpersonal Traumas and Resilience and is the co-holder of the Marie-Vincent Interuniversity Chair on Child Sexual Abuse. Her research program examines the prevalence, profiles, and developmental consequences of child sexual abuse and teen dating violence. She uses population-based surveys, longitudinal designs, and person-oriented analyses to map heterogeneity in victimization experiences and associated mental-health trajectories. Her work has guided the evaluation of school-based and community prevention programs and she collaborates with clinical, child-protection, and community organizations to strengthen evidence-based practices and improve service accessibility for victims. As a recognized leader in child adversity and mental health, she has received a number of awards including a nomination as a member of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
