Daniel Ji, PhD
Daniel Ji completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia’s School of Social Work. He holds undergraduate degrees with majors in psychology, family studies, and social work with a child welfare specialization. After completing his BSW he worked in frontline child protection for six years while completing his Master of Social Work, conducting original thesis research on the implementation of differential response in British Columbia’s child welfare system. He has worked as a practice analyst for the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s Aboriginal Services Branch, working closely with Delegated Aboriginal Agencies in British Columbia on complex cases involving Indigenous youth and families. He has been a research project team lead for a project that examined peer-to-peer violence in Canada’s Indian Residential School system and project manager for a project about adolescents’ future oriented projects with non-parental adults. His research interests include parent-adolescent resistance dynamics, parent-adolescent interactions in a relational context, differential response and simulation in child welfare, and he is currently a Graduate Academic Assistant managing a project on the health information needs of Two-spirit, transgender, and non-binary youth in Canada.
